National Trust launches iPhone App

The National Trust has continued its march into the 21st Century by launching an iPhone application. The charity, which works to preserve and care for more than 300 properties across the UK, has worked in the past with Google Street View to make its houses more accessible.

With the new application, users can see National Trust properties near them, search through the list of locations on a map or in a list, and find out opening times, prices, facilities and information on disabled access from their mobile phone. Philip Ludgate, the National Trust’s head of Digital Media, said: “I’ve always been amazed by the fact that wherever you are in the country, you’re never more than 40 minutes away from a place looked after by the National Trust”.

“Our challenge is to find ways of demonstrating this to a wider audience – and the app is the perfect way to reach people who might never have come to the Trust before, or who might not realise the breadth of places in our care. (…) There’s no better way to find the places near you than by using the new app”.

It’s free to download, and available on the App Store now. It’s not clear if versions for other platforms, like Android, and Blackberry, are planned
